a total of 3,117 Miles in 25 Days. We want to have fun seeing America up close while helping others along the way. |
The Wit and Wisdom of Forrest Gump This will be a huge challenge for our minds and our bodies. Nutritionally, we will be burning 6,000 - 10,000 calories a day ... so the quantity and what we eat will be critical. We will also be needing lots of fluids ... especially through the Southwestern Desert. We will probably run into biomechanical problems that we'll have to work through. Certainly, the weather will be a challenge as we'll need to ride through the heat of the desert as well as wind, rain, more wind, and who knows what else!! This is a fast paced tour. Certainly not a wine tasting tour. We look forward to the challenge. We've adopted the name "Team BMB" (Bartholic, McMurray, Bramwell) to promote a feeling of camaraderie and support as I'm sure we will all need alot of both to get across. |
Each of us is riding our favorite and most comfortable bike across America. Chuck will be cranking his Merlin/Spectrum Titanium Bike equipped with Shimano Dura Ace components. Cheryl will be on her new Trek 5200 OCLV with Shimano Ultegra Triple components. Ken will be riding his Holland Titanium Bike with Campy Chorus/Triple components. |
PAC Tour (Pacific-Atlantic-Cycling Tour) was started in 1985 by cross country record holders Susan Notorangelo and Lon Haldeman as a way to offer the long distance cyclist the ultimate cycling vacation. Lon and Susan will offer their experiences from over fifty transcontinental rides to make our Bike Expedition Across America as smooth as possible. Here's some advice from the PAC Tour web site: "Important Notice! - PAC Tour is rated by BICYCLING Magazine as "the toughest tour in the world". PAC Tour does not follow the flattest, smoothest or easiest route across the country. PAC Tour routes are designed to offer the best cycling routes each day between motels and points of interest. If you are looking for an easy, flat, tail wind tour across America do not sign up for PAC Tour." |
