Lon's Description: We start to get into the eastern mountains as we head toward Tennessee. Now the hills get bigger and the forests thicker

Today we rode from Lebanon, TN to Dayton, TN. Once again we were on country roads most of the day, with excellent weather. The scenery was very enjoyable, and it was especially nice to ride along and see the people in the tiny little towns waving at us.

We had 3 long climbs after lunch, climbing up into forested areas each time, then followed by a long downhill. These were enjoyable because it is such a beautiful area. We saw lots of different types of trees, ferns, and other vegetation along the way.

The last few miles into Dayton was a spectacular 40 mph downhill that we all appreciated.

We have been riding for 21 days continuously, and at this point we are naturally thinking about the finish in Charleston. Day 22 is the most difficult remaining day and the succeeding days are progressively easier.
Ken

OUR THOUGHTS

Highlights: Another OUTSTANDING day of cycling!!

We saw lots of houses all decorated for Halloween already, even though it's a month away.

Seemed like every house had a porch and every porch had a swing on it.

In Pikeville, there was a really beautiful Colonial Bed & Breakfast. Would be a nice place to spend some time in ...

At the Taco Bell for dinner, Chuck was talking to a local guy who said he loves living here ... he just moved to a house on a 3 Acre lot which gives his 4 kids plenty of room to play. It's mighty green in this area even with a relatively dry summer.

Everyone was glued to the TV as we watched the Olympics Men Time Trial. It was so amazing to us to see Lance Armstrong average 36 MPH on the first lap. We have each seen some days of amazing personal fitness but nothing anywhere close to that!! Lance's quote: "There are no bad days!!"

Chuck's Song of the Day:

"One man crawled on a barbed wire fence
One man he resist
One man washed on an empty beach
One man betrayed with a kiss
In the name of love
One more in the name of love
In the name of love
One more in the name of love

Early morning - April 4
A shot rings out in the Memphis sky
Free at last, they took your life
But they could not take your pride
In the name of love
One more in the name of love
In the name of love
One more in the name of love"

U2 "Pride (in the name of love)" on "Rattle and Hum"
