Lorna's Santa Fe Century May 16, 1999

Lorna made a major goal to complete the Santa Fe Century Bike Ride. She did it for a very good cause, to help raise funds for the Leukemia Society of America.

Lorna wrote the following letter to help raise the funds: "On May 16th, 1999 I will be climbing aboard my bile to ride over 100 miles. If you know me at all then you know that this is NO small task. Every mile I ride and every stroke of the pedal will be dedicated to raising funds for the Leukemia Society's Team in Training. I became a part of Team in Training in January and I was partnered with my "honored team mate" Briten Douglas, pictured here. Briten has been stricken since an early age with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. Briten has been in remission for 7 years and is doing great. She is beating the odds due largely in part to the funds raised by Team in Training members.

Briten is twelve years old and leads a full and active life. She is an honor student and has a passion for both drama and art. Her smile and the sparkle in her eyes show you that she has a wonderful spirit. To say that she is an inspiration is an understatement. This year on New Years Day Briten even had the honor of representing Children's Hospital on the AAA float in the Rose Parade.

Twenty-Five years ago Britens chances of survival would have been only 5%. Today due to the efforts of the Leukemia Society of America and Team in Training that statistic is at 73%. As you can see the research dollars raised have made a difference in saving lives."

Lorna was successful in raising the funds and here are some photos of her First Century Bike Ride!!
