200 Kilometer Brevet 1/16/99 Photos

Brevet Organizer Hugh Murphy gave us some last minute instructions at the start in Anaheim Hills.
This is the beautiful tree lined "Victoria Street" in Riverside.

T.K. Gardner is on the left looking back in his sunglasses.

Ken Bartholic is on the right of T.K. in his new PAC Tour Windbreaker.
Last October, Ken rode across America in 3 weeks on PAC Tour!!
Robert Freed came around the bend on the start of Jack Rabbit Trail just as I was taking off a layer of clothes.
Lee Mitchell was monitoring the course here at the start of Jack Rabbit Trail in his Red Van.

Also known as "Fuzzy", Lee has been the Crew Chief for tons of Race Across America finishers including First Place Winner Gerry Tatrai in 1993!!
Jack Rabbit Trail is 4.2 Miles and 1,000 Feet of Climbing.

The road was in better shape this year than last year but still was unpaved in many sections -- making for some careful driving required as you climb up it.
This is the view towards the West as you climb Jack Rabbit Trail.

This winter we've had hardly any rain. Last year at this time, these hills were super green and beautiful.
You never know what you're going to find on Jack Rabbit Trail!!

At this point, I was ready to get off the bike and jump right in this Dog House.
